Last week, Representative Todd Young (R-IN-9) visited Jasper Engines and Transmissions headquarters in Jasper, IN. Rep. Young represents Jasper’s neighboring district and sits on the House Ways and Means Committee.

Rep. Young was greeted by Jasper President and COO Zach Bawel, Chairman and CEO Doug Bawel, and other senior leadership members. They toured the plant and then had the opportunity to sit down with five Jasper employee-owners to discuss the benefits of employee ownership. These benefits were also expressed in a recent study by Alex Brill, CEO of the consulting firm Matrix Global Advisors. The study found that employee-owned companies are not only more profitable and productive, but also more resilient during economic fluctuations compared to the general private sector.

After speaking with the group of employee-owners, Rep. Young, who has already vocalized support for S ESOPs at a Ways and Means Committee hearing this year, shared that he would support S ESOPs in tax legislation when it comes before the Committee as a part of comprehensive tax reform.

Congressman Young is the second Member to visit a Jasper facility this year. In July, the company hosted Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO-8) at their Willow Springs, MO location.

ESCA appreciates Jasper’s efforts in hosting these district events and thanks Rep. Young for his time and support.
