Recology has been a leader in the recycling industry for over 50 years, long before recycling became commonplace or mandated by law. And now with half a decade under its belt, Recology continues to serve surrounding communities as an ESCA member and employee-owned business.

The company has a large presence on the West Coast, serving communities in California, Oregon and now Washington, with the opening of its state-of-the-art recycling facility in South Seattle. This specific facility, Recology CleanScapes, is capable of processing more than 90,000 tons of high quality recyclables annually that are re-introduced to the market as recycled products.

Earlier this week, Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA-9) visited and toured the 75,000-square-foot Recology CleanScapes facility in South Seattle. During his visit, Rep. Smith heard directly from Recology’s employee-owners about the unique culture and retirement security benefits of working for an employee-owned business. In Washington alone, Recology employs approximately 300 employee-owners and the new South Seattle facility is able to serve the cities of Seattle, Shoreline, Des Moines, Issaquah and Carnation, with service for Burien, SeaTac and Maple Valley beginning in the near future. In all the communities they serve, Recology employees engage with customers through customer education programs. During his recent visit, Rep. Smith was able to witness these efforts first hand. ESCA also congratulates Recology on the opening of their new facility.

District events are a great way to educate, engage, and inform members of Congress about S ESOPs and employee ownership issues. They have proven to be one of the most effective and impactful ways to tell the S corporation ESOP story and can convert a Member into an active proponent of employee ownership.
