Home News Employee Commitment Helps S ESOP Companies Gain National, Local Awards and Recognition

Throughout 2012, S corporation ESOP companies across the nation received awards recognizing excellence in all facets of business. In San Antonio, ESCA Board company Alterman Inc., an employee-owned electrical and data contractor, was awarded one of San Antonio Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for the region. In Kansas City, after 7 years of being in the Top 10 Best Places to Work in Kansas City, ESCA Board company Burns & McDonnell Engineering, a full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting solutions firm, claimed the top spot on the list.

In addition, ESCA Board company HDR, Inc., an employee-owned architecture and construction consulting firm, earned the American Council of Engineering Companies’ North Carolina chapter award for the firm’s work on the Bridgewater Hydro Station Powerhouse in McDowell and Burke counties, North Carolina. This award now qualifies HDR for the national ACEC’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards program, which will be held in April 2013 in Washington, D.C. However, it is not the only award HDR received in 2012. A number of trade publications including Architect Magazine, Architectural Record, and Building Design consistently rank HDR as one of the top building and architecture firms in the country.

According to the National Center for Employee Ownership, “driven by engaged, entrepreneurial employees, employee-owned companies often emerge as industry leaders, pioneering best practices in a range of areas.” We could not agree more as a high level of employee-owner engagement one of the reasons S ESOPS operate so efficiently. Employee-owners constantly work to do whatever it takes to perform at the highest level because they are invested both financially and professionally in the success of their company.

This culture of ownership that develops among employee-owned companies leads to increased profitability, which in turns allows companies to grow at a faster rate because they can invest more, hire more and increase output, according to a study conducted by Alex Brill. Increased stability, accountability, and teamwork are notable reasons why employee-owned companies are recognized as the “best place to work,” and is due in large part to their ESOP structure.

We are proud to see ESCA companies recognized nationally and locally for their hard work and employee ownership structure!
