Home News Congressman Tom Price Visits 100% Employee-Owned Burns & McDonnell

Earlier this month, Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) visited the offices of top engineering firm Burns & McDonnell in Alpharetta, Georgia. The Congressman was greeted by company leaders who shared the benefits and success of employee ownership throughout the industry and at Burns & McDonnell specifically. Rep. Price then took time to share his observations and update the firm on current issues in Washington, including the sequester and budget plans.

Burns & McDonnell, an ESCA Board company, is based in Kansas City, MO. The Southeast regional office was recognized as one of Georgia’s “Best Places to Work” by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and “Best Engineering Firm” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Burns & McDonnell was also ranked 18th on Fortune magazine’s annual list of “100 Best Companies to Work For”, and the 2012 ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) Company of the Year from The ESOP Association. Further, for the last three years, Burns & McDonnell has been selected as one of eight architecture, engineering and construction firms nationwide to receive the Premier Award for Client Satisfaction from the Professional Services Management Journal.

A study by Alex Brill, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, illustrates how ESOPs not only have more productive and dedicated workers who enable the companies to be more resilient during periods of poor economic growth, but also how the business model creates significantly larger retirement funds for employees.

The accolades received by the firm over the past few years illustrate the success of the S ESOP business model and its implementation at Burns & McDonnell. We thank Rep. Price for taking the time to see these benefits firsthand.
