Last week, ESCA member and 100% employee-owned Recology had the honor of hosting House Ways and Means Committee Member Mike Thompson (D-CA-5) at their Vallejo garbage, recycling and yard waste collection facility.
Rep. Thompson was given a tour of the Vallejo site and met with Recology’s employee-owners. During his visit, Congressman Thompson heard powerful first-hand accounts of the unique benefits of working at an employee-owned company, how employee ownership produces a workplace culture more akin to “family,” and how the S ESOP provides for the retirement security of Recology’s employee-owners. As his visit concluded, he expressed his support for S ESOPs noting, “S ESOPs allow people to buy into the American dream.”
Founded in 1986, Recology is the largest employee-owned company in the industry and has been honored for the quality of its ownership program and its positive impact on corporate performance. The company’s ESOP makes it easy to focus on providing long-term, sustainable solutions to their customers. In addition, employee ownership allows Recology to consistently attract and retain the industry’s best people at every level of the company.
Recology is an integrated resource recovery company headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company collects and processes municipal solid waste, reclaiming useful materials that would have otherwise been buried in a landfill.
ESCA thanks Congressman Thompson for taking the time to visit successful employee-owned businesses like Recology and for your continued support of the S ESOP business model.
