This spring, a record six members of Congress – Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN), House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) and Sens. John Thune (R-SD), Richard Burr (R-NC), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) – joined ESCA Board members and Summit attendees for various Summit activities. Additionally, Jared Bernstein, former chief economist for Vice President Joe Biden, presented the findings of his new study that shows by increasing capital ownership, ESOPs reduce wealth and wage inequality. Bernstein argued that if ESOP plans were to proliferate more broadly, more workers across the country would benefit from their equalizing effects.
In September, more than 160 members, employee-owners and guests attended our annual conference in Washington, DC. In February, we had a ESCA conference record of 180 attendees at the 2015 Leadership Summit. Participants heard from Congressman John Kline (R-MN), Chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Senator Dan Coats (R-IN), new member of the Senate Finance Committee, and Congressman Richie Neal (D-MA) of the House Ways and Means Committee.
